Problems uploading

The upload is stuck at "Optimizing video for upload"

Most likely causes

  1. Your file is between 500 MB and 800 MB. Fix: wait. GRAPE MARS makes files of this size smaller in your browser first. An 800 MB file can take several minutes. The bar moves on to the upload stage. Files over 800 MB skip this step. An amber notice says the file is uploaded as it is, in parts.
  2. You closed the tab or the laptop lid. Fix: keep the tab open. Keep the laptop awake until the bar reaches 100%. The upload finishes.
  3. The browser has too little memory left. Fix: wait. If shrinking fails, an amber notice appears. It begins "Couldn't shrink this video in your browser". GRAPE MARS then uploads the original file in parts. This is not an error, but it takes longer. Close other tabs before your next upload.

My file is refused before the upload starts

Most likely causes

  1. The file is over 2 GB. Fix: cut the video into parts, or save it at a lower quality. 2 GB is the hard limit.
  2. The file type is not MP4, MOV or WebM. Fix: save it as MP4 first. Most tools can do this. The file is accepted.
  3. You picked a folder, not a file. Fix: pick one file. The upload starts. To bring in a whole old project, use the guide "Import a project from the old GRAPE" instead.

The bar stops before the end and then fails

Most likely causes

  1. Your network dropped for more than a moment. Fix: check your connection, then start the upload again. The bar starts from zero. GRAPE MARS sends each part up to 3 times by itself, so a short drop heals on its own. A longer drop ends the upload. A reload does not resume it either.
  2. Your sign-in has expired. Fix: reload the page. Sign in again if you are asked. Then upload again. The bar reaches 100%.
  3. A browser add-on blocked the request. Fix: turn add-ons off for this site, or use a private window.

The red message begins "Upload failed at part N of M" and names the cause. Look it up in Error messages T to V.

The upload finished but I cannot see the video

Most likely causes

  1. You are looking at a different project. Fix: open the project you uploaded into. The video appears in the list. A video can sit in more than one project.
  2. The page is showing an old version of the page. Fix: reload the page. The list is up to date.
  3. The upload finished after you left the page. Fix: wait a minute, then reload the page.

If the screen shows an error message, look it up in All error messages.

If it still does not work: contact support. Include the page address from the browser bar, the date and time, your browser and its version, the exact words on the screen, and what you clicked.
